General Admission Requirements

  • Program enrollment is based on a first-come, first-served basis by date of completed application. (A completed application includes all items required for enrollment.)
  • Persons seeking admission to a college must be at least 18 years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent. For full-time programs, the applicant must declare an occupational objective and demonstrate reasonable potential for achieving that objective.
  • All persons who are required to register for the Federal Draft under 50 U.S.C. App. Section 453 are not eligible to enroll in any post-secondary school until they have registered with selective service.

Program-Specific Admission Requirements

Educational and admission requirements vary from program to program. 

Criminal Justice: Correctional Officer

Professional Accrediting Body:  The Tennessee Correctional Institute, under the authority of TCA 41-4-140, establishes minimum standards for adult local jails, lockups, workhouses and detention facilities in the state.  TCI is responsible for educating local correctional staff while providing and monitoring basic certification and annual in-service training for personnel within local adult correctional detention facilities.

All of the below documents must be submitted together with the general requirements to accept your application.

Provide Proof of Completed FAFSA

Provide an official copy in a sealed envelope of one of the following:

A High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma transcript with a score of at least 450 with no score less than 410 in any area

A high school transcript with proof of completion of at least the 10th grade with 12 high school credits

Provide one of the following for proof of age:

A copy of your Driver's License

A copy of your birth certificate

A high school transcript with the birth date listed

Provide a copy of your Social Security Card.

Provide one of the following for a recent photograph.

A copy of your driver’s license/Photo ID

A snapshot that has been signed, dated, and notarized

Power Sports Technology

Diesel Powered Equipment Technology

New students enroll every month as space is available.

Students admitted to the Diesel Powered Equipment Technology program must have a valid driver’s license prior to admission.

Truck Driving

New students enroll every month as space is available.

Requirements: The following criteria must be completed before you are given a start date, with the exception of the DMV check and drug test which you will be required to obtain 30 days before  you start the class (at a designated health care facility). You must pass the drug test and DMV check. If you do not pass the drug test and DMV check you will not be able to attend the class. You must also obtain the CDL Permit prior to class. Contact Anthony Luttrell to schedule a free permit prep class. The prep class is held once a month on Saturday.

Step 1:  Must be 18 years of age & a U.S. Citizen

Step 2:  Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s License

Step 3:  Obtain DOT physical (Certified Medical Exam).

Step 4: Must obtain DOT Learner Permit-TCAT Crossville offers CDL Permit Prep class.  Contact Anthony Luttrell at 931-267-6693 for date and time of class.                                                             

Step 5:  Complete TCAT Crossville’s online application at https://tcatcrossville.edu/future-students/admissions

Step 6: Apply for financial aid at https://fafsa.ed.gov

Step 7: Submit copies of DOT physical (Certified Medical Exam), DOT Learners Permit, and Tennessee driver license. At this time, you will obtain a start date.    *Within 30 days of class start date: (If not submitted a week before class starts you will lose you start date)

Step 8:  Student will provide Student Services with the following documents:

Copy of your Ten Year Motor Vehicle Report. You can get your MVR by visiting https://www.tn.gov/safety/driver-services/mvr.html or by going to the Driver Service Center at 136 Dooley Street Crossville, TN 38555.

Complete a drug screen at Quality Medical Center-15 Walker Hill Street Crossville, TN 38555. 931-484-1100

(Must pick up paperwork from TCAT Crossville to take to location).Quality Medical Center will contact you with results and then send a copy of the results to TCAT. A random drug test may be a possibility at any time.

Both items must be submitted by deadline. Any delay in the Admissions process listed above WILL DELAY ENROLLMENT.

Cost: There is financial aid available for this program for current TN residents. Student cannot have used the TN lottery or TN reconnect grant before. If eligible, the grants may cover up to $1200 of the $1503 tuition fee. Amount covered by the grant is based on eligibility. You must complete the FAFSA to apply for state grants. Go to www.studentaid.gov to fill out FAFSA. You can also visit your local career center to see if you qualify for financial assistance. Additional out of pocket costs: DOT physical, MVR report, DOT drug test, DOT learner permit, & licensure. Surgical Technology

Application Procedure

The Surgical Technology program is offered once a year starting in July.  Application Packets may be submitted throughout the year.  Once the completed application packet is submitted the applicant’s name is placed on the application list. Students are accepted on a first come, first served basis. An appointment is made for the applicant to attend a General Information Session.  During this session, applicants will complete orientation (both for program and college admissions)and meet financial aid. The Surgical Technology Application Packet is the same as for any TCAT program with one exception.  The current, passing HESI scores must be included in the packet. 

The Surgical Technology Application Packet consists of:
Application for Enrollment
Copy of high school transcript or GED transcript  
Copy of Immunization Record for measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, Hepatitis B series, and TB skin test
Copy of current HESI scores (scores are current if the test was taken within two years of the first day of class)
Physical examination form
Additional Documentation
Additional Documentation must be presented prior to enrolling in the program. 
Complete the background check during the mandatory General Information Session
Participate in a personal interview with the instructor
Pass a physical exam prior to first day of class
Update remaining immunizations to required standards

Warning!  Prior convictions or probations may prevent clinical placement ( a requirement of completion of the program) and gainful employment.

Collision Repair Technology

New students enroll every month as space is available. SPECIAL NOTICE:  Based on industry requirements, students should hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.  Normally, employers will only hire technicians who hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

Building Construction Technology

Welding Technology - AWS

New students enroll every month as space is available.

The full-time Welding Techonology - AWS  day students meet 30 hours per week Monday –Friday 7:45am to 2:15pm 

The full-time Welding Technology - AWS evening students meet 1pm to 9pm Monday through Thursday.  To accommodate those who work first shift jobs, students may attend on a part-time modified schedule. Schedules must be approved prior to enrollment with the finanicial aid office. These students must attend 15 hours per week which makes them eligible to apply for financial aid. 

Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing day program meets Monday - Thursday from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. 

The Practical Nursing evening program is a part-time program and is a 16 month diploma program and meets Monday - Thursday from 4:00 - 9:45 pm.

The application procedure for this program is very strict.  It begins with registering to take the HESI entrance test.  Failure to pass the test or complete any application step on the specified schedule may result in disqualification.  Admission is open to all adults who complete the following:

Copy of current passing HESI scores

The applicant’s name will appear on the admission list on a first come, first served basis.  Names will appear on the admission list  AFTER the completed application packet is submitted. Once the completed application packet is submitted, an appointment is made for the applicant to attend a general information session.  During this session, applicants will complete orientation (both program and admissions).

A mandatory General Information Session will be held for all applicants wishing to start a practical nursing class. This information session includes discussions led by the nursing coordinator and financial aid coordinator.  Applicants will receive information regarding additional documentation required before starting school; costs sheets for books, equipment and supplies; and information regarding financial aid.  This is a great time to ask questions.  Admission lists will appear on the website after final interviews are complete.

Admission to the Practical Nursing and Surgical Technology programs is open to all adults who meet the following criteria for enrollment:

1. Pass an entrance test.
2. Submit application packet during designated time. The application packets include Application (submit on-line) for Enrollment, high school (special education will not qualify) or high school equivalency transcript and immunization record with proof of 2 Mumps Measels and Rubella (if born after 1957) and 2 varicella (if born after 1980) or exemptions. Also, nursing applicants must furnish three letters of recommendation, current physical, and additional immunizations which include hepatitis B series, current TB skin test and tetanus.
3. Participate in a General Information Session.
4. Furnish additional documents to include background check, proof of immunization, flu vaccine (clinical sight requirement), and physical examination. Surgical Tech and Practical Nursing students must pass a physical exam prior to the first day of class.
5. Interview with instructors upon request.

Machine Tool Technology

The full-time Industrial Maintenance day students meet 30 hours per week Monday –Friday 7:45am to 2:15pm
