The Diesel Powered Technology with CDL program provides practical experience in the repair and maintenance of engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, clutch and transmissions, hydraulics, drivelines and axles, frame and suspension systems, steering systems, brake systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Students receive instruction in diagnosing trouble, system analysis, disassembly, replacing defective parts, reassembling, etc. The program mission is to provide technical instruction and skill development to enable students to enter employment in truck, construction, agricultural equipment, and other related fields as technicians and being able to test and operate the equipment with a CDL License.

TCAT Uppercumberland Livingston Campus:
The mission of Diesel Powered Technology with CDL Program is to train individuals for employment as diesel service technicians and mechanics and earn a CDL upon completion. The Diesel Powered Technology with CDL program provides practical experience in the repair and maintenance of diesel powered equipment. Program Credentials
New students enroll every month as space is available.
Students admitted to the Diesel Powered Technology with CDL program must have a valid driver’s license prior to admission if they want to obtain the CDL by the end of the program.
Requirements: The following criteria must be completed before you are given a start date during the last trimester of the program, with the exception of the drug test which you will be required to obtain 30 days before you start the truck driving portion of the class (at a designated health care facility). You must pass the drug test. If you do not pass the drug test you will not be able to attend the class. You must also obtain the CDL Permit prior to class.
Step 1: Must be 18 years of age & a U.S. Citizen
Step 2: Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s License
Step 3: Obtain DOT physical (Certified Medical Exam).
Step 4: Must obtain DOT Learner Permit.To obtain learner permit you must take exam at Department of Motor Vehicles.
Step 5: Submit copies of DOT physical (Certified Medical Exam), DOT Learners Permit, and Tennessee driver license to instructor.
Step 6: Student will provide Instructor with the following document no sooner than 30 days BEFORE start date for cdl licensure:
CROSSVILLE CAMPUS STUDENTS:
Complete a drug screen at Quality Medical Center-15 Walker Hill Street Crossville, TN 38555. 931-484-1100-must be at location before 1 pm. Quality Medical Center will contact you with results and send copy to TCAT. (must have approval and drug test form from TCAT Upper Cumberland Crossville campus for drug test. (Must pick up paperwork from TCAT Upper Cumberland-Crossville campus to take to location. Random drug test may be a possibility at any time.
LIVINGSTON CAMPUS STUDENTS:
Complete a drug screen at Occupational Health-315 N. Washington Avenue Suite 190 Cookeville, Tn 38501. Phone: 931-526-1604. Hours: M-F 8 am-Noon, 1 pm-4 pm. Occupational Health will contact you with results and send copy to TCAT. (must have approval and drug test form from TCAT Upper Cumberland Livingston campus for drug test. (Must pick up paperwork from TCAT Upper Cumberland-Livingston to take to location. Random drug test may be a possibility at any time.
Items must be submitted by deadline. Any delay in the Admissions process listed above WILL DELAY ENROLLMENT.
Cost: There is financial aid available for this program for current TN residents. Student cannot have used the TN lottery or TN reconnect grant before. If eligible, the grants may cover up to $1200 of the $1503 tuition fee. Amount covered by the grant is based on eligibility. You must complete the FAFSA to apply for state grants. Go to www.studentaid.gov to fill out FAFSA. You can also visit your local career center to see if you qualify for financial assistance. Additional out of pocket costs: DOT physical, DOT drug test, DOT learner permit, & licensure.
